Looking for something to do the weekend after the 4th? You’re maybe a little hung-over from the July 4th activities from the middle of the week, but being the weekend, you just got to get away to crank that energy up again. It doesn’t have to be only about the beach – there’s a lot more to the American Summer than sand, sun, fireworks and Independence Day!

Longmire Days – Buffalo, WY

The Sixth Annual Longmire Days is set for July 7-9, 2017. The Longmire cast, along with author Craig Johnson will be in attendance again this year and there are plenty of fun-filled events for all ages.

Welcome to the biggest event of Buffalo’s Summer Season! Thanks to local author, Craig Johnson, this little town has become a big hit on the TV show “Longmire”! His books, based on life in Buffalo, Johnson County and Wyoming, became a popular TV show, the highest rated on A&E ever, and is now being produced by Netflix.

13th Annual Heartland Art Guild International Miniature Painting & Sculptures Art Show – Paola, KS

The Heartland Art Guild promotes art and artists in the Miami County, Kansas and surrounding area. The guild sponsors the Annual Heartland Miniatures Art Show. This is an international juried miniature art exhibition held at the Miami County Historical Museum in Paola, Kansas.

About the Art:

All of the entries will be for sale set in $5 increments, with a $75 minimum. A 30% commission will be charged to the artists on sales. (20% for Guild members)

About the Media:

  2. Hand pulled prints if limited edition, signed and numbered
  3. No photos or computer generated works


About the Juror – John Richardson

A native Kansan, John has received many regional and national awards for his paintings. Having worked in watercolor exclusively for 35 years, it remains his favorite medium, but in recent years he has painted in acrylic and oil. John finds his inspiration in cowboys on horses, cows on a ridge, and storm clouds billowing high into the sky – anything that is flattered by the light. John received his BFA from the University of Kansas, worked as a Hallmark artist for 27 years, and is a painter, illustrator, teacher, and writer. He lives in Overland Park, KS, with his wife Janet. They have three grown children.

About the Awards

Best of Show and Merit Awards receive cash awards and ribbons. Other awards to be announced at a later date. All awards by juror will be final.

26th Annual Benton County Rodeo – Warsaw, MO

Take a trip to Central Missouri for the MRCA & URA sanctioned 26th Annual Benton County Rodeo, July 7-8, behind Osage Mini-Mart on East Main Street in Warsaw, MO.

Events will include saddle bronco riding, steer wrestling, cowgirl’s barrel race, bareback bronco, calf roping, bull riding, mutton busting, contest ages 4-7, break away roping, team roping, sheep scramble for kids 10 years and younger.

Queen & Youth events start at 7:30 p.m., with the rodeo starting at 8 pm on Friday and Saturday.

Adult tickets are $9 in advance and $11 at the gate; children 6- 12 are $5 in advance and $6 at the gate; and 6 and younger are free.

Experimental Film Virginia Summer Festival and Artist Residency – Cape Charles, VA

Experimental Film Virginia brings together artists from dance, film, and visual arts to make short films on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, inspired by local culture and echoes of vintage Americana. Art-Soaked Weekends bring live performance and music to celebrate this “glocal” gathering, attracting day tourists, art aficionados, vacationers, families and couples from all over the East Coast.

The films and events of this festival capture, honor, revitalize and build local identity, economy, and a sense of community. They present a unique cultural tourism model with the films and events that capture the history and charm of this territory to share it with everyone.

During the two-week filmmaking artist residency, the art-soaked weekends offer live performance and music to celebrate this “glocal” gathering and bring artists and audiences together. Every July.
