hipster-beardsNot only the colors, the actual rugged-look is influencing men’s fashion trends this Fall. We’ve grown accustomed to the hipster beards and the “I-don’t-care-about-fashion-trends” style in our urban areas, but the look is permeating into other areas as well — both metropolitan and rural.

Also, always inspired by favorite activities, men are now wearing rugged-wear in tandem with their other functions of work, relaxation and leisure time.

2-hunter-sneakers-copyThe “Sporting Gentleman” plaid sneakers from New Balance were made in collaboration with Ball and Buck, a Boston-based menswear store that offers apparel made for hunting.

In order to honor this, the New Balance plaid sneakers feature a green and brown colorway that’s reminiscent of that found on camouflage gear, which is accented by a few orange stripes as well. The mostly olive upper of the Sporting Gentleman is complemented with a leather New Balance logo and a white sole that gives it a cleaner look.

In order to make clear the demographic the brand is targeting, New Balance and Ball and Buck include an editorial that shows a masculine leg sporting the shoes in a rough natural landscape, with specks of dirt spotting the plaid sneakers.

3-barbour-wear-jacketInspired by traditional Barbour hunting jackets, the Ware features a washable leather gun recoil patch and a 5-cartridge pocket detail. Made of 6oz. beeswax waxed cotton for protection against the elements, the jacket sports a classic Barbour tartan cotton lining, a two-way front zip with storm flap and three front pockets with snap-close flaps. The fern green jacket has a waxed cotton outer shell that sponges clean and has a cotton lining.

4-modular-military-backpacks“Colfax Design Works,” a company that’s based in California, designed a military backpack that’s made to offer consumers a useful product that allows them to carry whatever they need with comfort.

It does this by including anti-fatigue shoulder straps, removable anti-load sternum straps, side compression straps and lightweight cushioning that protects the wearer without being weighed down. The military backpacks come complete with a massive amount of storage space that can quickly be customized to fit an individual’s specific needs as well.

This means that additional compartments can be added to the backpack with ease. Other features include a hydration sleeve and secondary internal storage, which can be accessed efficiently through a pocket at the top.

5-treeleather-wallet“Treather” wallets from PARSEC Design Studio get their name from being accessories made from a hybrid of natural wood and leather.

The fine vegetable-tanned leather products feature the distinctive grain patterns of Rosewood, Walnut and Zebrawood, making for interesting patterns that resemble real wood grain. Types of wallets available include full-sized wallets, as well as smaller card holders. Currently, these wallets are running as part of a project on Kickstarter to bring them to the masses. As part of their campaign, the designers note: “Pound for pound, [wood as a material is] stronger than steel. If properly cared for, it will last indefinitely.”

6-waterproof-wax-jacketsFor consumers spending a large portion of their time outside or commuting in climates that have a lot of rain or wind, the Rover Jacket might be an asset to add to one’s wardrobe. The coat is specially designed to be resistant to moisture and heavy winds thanks to an innovative wax coating that covers the stylish canvas material. The wax is ultra thin and undetectable, keeping the jacket dapper, slim and fitted for a dressier look.

Many raincoats can be too bulky for the taste of certain consumers, which is why the Rover Jacket offers a bit dressier vintage design. The coat is made from canvas coated in a wax base. The wax prevents water from penetrating into the material and also keeps cold temperatures out.

7-masculine-fashionSo its not just the impression of rugged wear that is trending in men’s fashion, it’s more about the practicality of materials treatments and color that are adding to the longevity and practicality of the garments and products themselves.

8-womens-military-fashionI personally welcome this rugged and dashing trend back to military and outdoor masculinity for men, and it looks quite appealing on women too, as several couture designers are showing us this season.
