Things have really changed since the days of searching for a new job by flooding prospective employers with single-sheet resumes or CVs as they’re known in some circles. There are new digital tools and Internet options that add up to frankly better, more focused technologies that vastly improve career searches.
Video résumés can be appropriate and timesaving for recruiters filtering through responses from thousands of candidates. Especially true if the position calls for dealing with the public. A video résumé shows the candidate’s poise, confidence, appearance and personality. These are especially important traits for careers in Sales, PR and Marketing.

First – attitude and confidence. These are essential talents and skills for most positions that mere claims on a sheet of paper cannot accurately communicate.
Second – scripting. Any good video has a carefully prepared script that clearly and cohesively communicates its message. A well-planned script will lead an audience of recruiters to the action the applicant is seeking – an invitation for a personal interview.
Third – technology. The technology used in producing your video résumé is almost as important as its content or message. By using technology that is current and appropriate for the field of endeavor, candidates exhibit necessary skills required or desired by the job, the industry or the multifunctional applications within the hiring companies.
And finally – distribution. How your message is distributed can make the difference between being seen and being completely overlooked. Consider loading video résumés onto Vimeo or YouTube so that you can reference it and re-direct recruiters within your digital and print communications. Also, as in the result of the now-infamous Matthew Epstein’s Google hire failure, the process brought about priceless exposure, personal brand-building and ultimate success:
